I am a Christian but…

It's so easy to feel alone when you're a Christian and you still find yourself wrestling with sin or persistent challenges. That feeling of 'I am a Christian, but...' is what we often call 'pergumulan' – a spiritual struggle or wrestling match. It's a deep inner conflict, a battle between our fleshly desires and the Spirit within us, and it's a very real part of the Christian walk. I've been there, feeling the weight of it, wondering if I'm 'Christian enough' because I still deal with things I thought I should have overcome. Take, for example, the struggles we see on that image – Anger, Jealousy, Anxiety, Lust. These aren't just 'worldly' problems; they can deeply affect us as believers. I've definitely felt the grip of Anxiety, especially when facing uncertain situations, even though I know God is in control. And Anger? Sometimes it flares up when I least expect it, making me question my spiritual maturity. Understanding that these are common areas of pergumulan is the first step. It means acknowledging the fight is real, but also knowing we're not fighting alone. One of the biggest 'buts' for me is consistently reading my Bible. Life gets busy, distractions pop up, and suddenly, my time in God's Word feels inconsistent. But I've learned that this is exactly where the strength to overcome other struggles comes from. When we immerse ourselves in scripture, we're reminded of WHO God says we are. We're not defined by our struggles, but by His truth: we are Forgiven, Chosen, Beautiful, a Daughter of a King. This identity in Christ is a powerful weapon against doubt and temptation. When Lust tries to creep in, reminding myself I am Chosen by a holy God helps me set my eyes on higher things. When Jealousy whispers, remembering I am Beautiful in God's sight, uniquely made, helps me celebrate others. So, what can we do practically when we face these 'pergumulan'? Confess and Repent: Be honest with God about what you're struggling with. He already knows, and He offers grace and forgiveness. This is especially important for things like Anger or Lust. Renew Your Mind: Actively replace negative thoughts and desires with God's truth. Memorize verses that speak to your specific struggle (like 1 Corinthians 13 on love, as highlighted in the image, can counter Jealousy and Anger). Lean into Your Identity: Regularly affirm who God says you are. You are Forgiven, not condemned. You are Chosen, not forgotten. You are Beautiful, not lacking. You are a Daughter of a King, with all the authority and protection that comes with it. Practice Spiritual Disciplines: Even when it's hard, make time for Bible study and prayer. Start small if consistently reading my Bible feels overwhelming. Five minutes of prayer, one verse a day – consistency builds habit. Seek Community: Share your struggles with trusted Christian friends or mentors. There's immense power in knowing you're not alone and having others pray for and encourage you. Remember, our struggles don't negate our faith. They are opportunities for God to show His strength in our weakness. Keep pressing on, knowing that in Christ, we are more than conquerors.
