How I get exercise as a mom

I used to be in the gym five days a week before getting pregnant. Once my kid came along, finding time for exercise became a lot harder. Since going to the gym was no longer an option, I had to find new ways to get my exercise in from home. Here are a few ways I incorporate physical activity into my days as a mom:

1. Walk inside on my walking pad

My husband and I decided to buy a walking pad for inside our house about a month ago, and I absolutely love it!! We love going on outside walks, but we also live in the south and this heat has been brutal. It’s nice to be inside, in the air conditioning while getting that cardio in.

2. Go on walks outside with the baby

So we do love going on outside walks with the stroller. We used to do it every night. Unfortunately it has been so hot here recently that we haven’t gotten to do that much the last month or so. But once it starts cooling down a bit, we will be back to doing evening walks!

3. Do a yoga or pilates routine at home

I have a yoga mat and I’ll just plop it down in my living room and do a little exercise routine that I find on YouTube. There’s soooo many videos on youtube to choose from, I love it! I’ve found really short ones too that are like 10 minutes long, so I can do a little one while baby naps or while he’s hanging with dad at night.

... Read moreFinding time to exercise as a mom can be challenging, but it is essential for both physical and mental wellness. Incorporating short workouts into your daily routine is not only feasible but also beneficial for maintaining energy levels. Beyond using a walking pad or going on stroller walks, consider setting up mini workouts throughout the day; for example, during intervals of TV time or while the baby plays independently. Additionally, online platforms like YouTube offer a plethora of workout videos targeting moms, ranging from high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to calming yoga sessions. Engaging in family activities can also count toward fitness—play interactive games with your kids or set up obstacle courses for fun. Many moms find that involving children in workouts helps create a healthy lifestyle for the whole family. Lastly, establishing a consistent routine is crucial; schedule exercise just like you would any other commitment. Even 15-20 minutes of focused activity can make a significant difference in your health and attitude. Remember, staying active is a journey, and every bit of movement counts!
