Canadian Rockies
It does not look real!
Oh my goodness, if you've ever thought about visiting the Canadian Rockies, just go! Seriously, like the article says, it genuinely doesn't look real – I kept pinching myself! From towering, snow-capped peaks to lakes so turquoise they defy belief, it's an absolute paradise for adventurers and nature lovers alike. I just got back from my trip, and I wanted to share some of the incredible 'things to do' that made my experience unforgettable. First off, you absolutely have to explore Banff National Park. It's probably the most famous for a reason. My top recommendation? Hiking! There are trails for every fitness level. I personally loved the Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse trail at Lake Louise. It’s a bit of a climb, but the views of Lake Louise from above and the cozy teahouse at the top make it so worth it. For something easier but equally stunning, the Johnston Canyon Lower Falls trail is a boardwalk path through a gorgeous canyon. Don't forget to pack good hiking boots and bear spray (just in case!). And speaking of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake (just up the road from Lake Louise), canoeing on these iconic turquoise waters is a bucket-list experience. Yes, it's a bit pricey to rent a canoe, but paddling across that unbelievably clear water with mountains soaring all around you? Pure magic. Go early in the morning to beat the crowds and get that glassy water reflection! Next up, Jasper National Park offers a slightly wilder, less crowded vibe. The Icefields Parkway drive between Banff and Jasper is a destination in itself. Seriously, pull over at every viewpoint – you won't regret it. In Jasper, I highly recommend visiting the Athabasca Falls and taking a boat tour on Maligne Lake to Spirit Island. The boat tour gives you unique perspectives you can't get from shore. For wildlife enthusiasts, keep your eyes peeled! I saw elk, deer, and even a bighorn sheep right from the roadside. Early mornings and evenings are usually the best times for spotting animals. Remember to keep a safe distance and never feed them. If you're looking for a relaxing activity after all that hiking, the Banff Upper Hot Springs are a fantastic way to soothe tired muscles while enjoying panoramic mountain views. It’s a classic Rockies experience! Finally, don't rush it. Give yourself at least 5-7 days to truly experience a good chunk of what the Canadian Rockies have to offer. Book accommodations and popular activities like canoe rentals in advance, especially during peak season (summer and early fall). Dress in layers, as the weather can change quickly. Trust me, you'll leave feeling completely revitalized and already planning your next trip back to this unbelievably real, yet unreal, part of the world!
