... Read moreAugust is truly shaping up to be an incredible month for culture, music, and connection across the US! If you're anything like me, you're already buzzing with excitement, trying to figure out how to squeeze in all the amazing events happening. I’ve been digging into what’s on offer, and let me tell you, there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking to dance, learn, or simply soak in some fantastic vibes. First up, for my music lovers, Afro Nation in Detroit, MI on August 17th sounds absolutely unmissable. Imagine immersing yourself in global sounds right in the heart of the Motor City! And speaking of powerful cultural experiences, the Jacksonville Caribbean Carnival on August 24th and the Caribmask Carnival in Raleigh, NC on August 17-18th promise vibrant parades, delicious food, and music that will transport you straight to the islands. I'm already picturing the colorful costumes and infectious energy! If you're into jazz, August is your month! The Norfolk Waterfront Jazz Festival in Norfolk, VA (Aug 16-17th) is a classic, while the Atlanta Wine and Jazz Festival in Atlanta, GA and the Blue Note Jazz Festival in Napa, CA (Aug 30 - Sept 1st) offer different vibes, from sophisticated sips to legendary performances. Don't forget the Coltrane International Jazz & Blues Festival in High Point, NC (Aug 31st - Sept 1st) for a deeper dive into jazz history. Beyond the music, there are incredible opportunities for growth and networking. The Black is Tech Conference in Houston, TX (Aug 19-21st) and Invest Fest in Atlanta, GA (Aug 23rd) are perfect for those looking to expand their knowledge and connect with like-minded individuals. And for film enthusiasts, the National Black Film Festival in Houston, TX (Aug 28-31st) is a must-attend for celebrating storytelling and cinematic art. To make the most of these fantastic August festivals, I always recommend a few tips: Plan Ahead: Many of these events, especially the popular ones like Afro Nation or Blue Note Jazz Festival, sell out fast. Book your tickets and accommodations as early as possible! Stay Hydrated & Sun-Safe: August can be hot, so bring a reusable water bottle and don't forget sunscreen and a hat, especially for outdoor events like the carnivals. I learned this the hard way at a festival last year! Explore Locally: Festivals are a great excuse to discover the cities they're in. Whether it's the culinary scene in Philadelphia during Barrel and Flow (Aug 9-11th) or the history of Middleburg, VA during Family Reunion (Aug 15-18th), take some time to explore beyond the festival grounds. Connect & Share: Festivals are all about community. Don't be shy to strike up conversations, especially at networking events. And of course, share your amazing experiences with friends and family! I’m so excited for all the memories to be made. Which August festival are you most looking forward to? Let me know!
