You don’t need a better morning routine.
You need fewer decisions before your nervous system is even awake.
From personal experience, one of the most impactful changes I've made to my mornings is drastically cutting down on decisions before I’m fully awake. Instead of fighting through a foggy brain trying to decide what to wear, eat, or even which task to start with, I prepare the night before or eliminate unnecessary choices altogether. For example, laying out clothes, prepping breakfast ingredients, or having a fixed, calming morning ritual can make a huge difference. This approach aligns well with the concept of regulated living, where the goal is to maintain balance and minimize stress from the very start of your day. When your nervous system isn’t bombarded with decisions immediately upon waking, it stays calmer and more resilient. This method also ties beautifully into practices like #GentleJanuary, which encourage kindness and gentleness toward yourself. Incorporating a few key habits has significantly improved my mental clarity and emotional regulation. Rather than waking up to a chaotic to-do list, I focus on a set routine that requires minimal cognitive effort but provides a sense of control and peace. These small changes have helped me feel more connected and less rushed, creating a foundation for a more productive and mindful day. If you’re struggling with overwhelming mornings, I highly recommend trying to reduce your decision load—they’re not just time savers, but energy and stress savers as well.
