For a long time, my mornings felt rushed and a bit chaotic. I'd grab something to eat, scroll through my phone, and then dive straight into tasks. But I realized I was missing out on a profound opportunity to connect spiritually and set a positive tone for the hours ahead. It’s not about spending an hour in deep meditation (though that's wonderful if you can!). It can be as simple as taking a few moments before or during your breakfast to acknowledge God's presence. For me, it's become a sacred routine. Just as my body needs nourishment from food, my soul thrives on spiritual nourishment from prayer. Why make your breakfast table a place of prayer? Well, think about it. It’s often the first substantial moment you have to pause after waking up. It’s a natural time to express gratitude for the food before you, for the new day, and for the simple gift of life. It helps ground me before the demands of the day kick in. I’ve found that even on days when "Spiritual blessings come wrapped in TRIALS," as I once read, starting with prayer gives me a reservoir of peace and resilience to draw upon. It’s like building a spiritual foundation brick by brick, right there at my kitchen table. So, how do I do it? It’s wonderfully flexible! Sometimes I just close my eyes for a minute, holding my hands over my plate, and offer a silent thanks. Other times, if I have a little more time, I might open my Bible or a devotional book. I love picking up books like "Jesus Calling" for a quick, inspiring message that resonates with my soul. It’s like having a little "Read With Me" moment with God Himself. Here’s a simple structure you could try for your own morning breakfast prayer: Gratitude: Thank God for your food, your health, your family, and the new day. Be specific! Request Guidance: Ask for wisdom, strength, and clarity for the day ahead. Pray for any specific challenges you anticipate. Blessings: Ask God to bless your meal, your loved ones, and your work. Presence: Simply invite God's presence to be with you throughout your day. For example, a prayer might sound something like this: "Dear God, thank You for this nourishment You've provided, for the gift of this new day, and for Your unchanging love. Please bless this food to my body and strengthen me for all I need to do today. Guide my steps, fill me with Your peace, and help me to be a light to others. Amen." Making this a consistent habit doesn’t have to be hard. Start small. Perhaps just one minute of silent gratitude. As it becomes a natural part of your morning, you might find yourself wanting to extend it. Even on the busiest mornings, a quick 'thank you' can make all the difference. It truly shifts your perspective from a hurried start to a blessed beginning. I hope sharing my experience encourages you to try incorporating a morning breakfast prayer into your routine.
