When I was going through Genesis, for example, summarizing chapters like Genesis 1 and 2 helped me grasp the profound beauty of creation in a way that simply reading wouldn't. Similarly, when delving into John 10 and Jesus as the Good Shepherd, condensing those powerful verses helped me remember His comforting promises. It boosts retention, clarifies complex passages, and allows me to revisit key insights quickly months later. Plus, there’s a real joy in seeing my faith journey unfold through my own handwritten notes. My Go-To Method for Summarizing Bible Passages Here’s a peek into my personal summarizing routine, which you saw reflected in my notes from Genesis 13, 14, and John 8: Prayer & Initial Read-Through: I always start with prayer, asking for wisdom. Then, I read the chapter or passage (like Genesis 37, the story of Joseph) a couple of times to get the overall context. Identify Key Themes & Verses: During the second or third read, I start looking for central themes, commands, promises, or significant characters. What’s the main message? For instance, in Genesis 19, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, I focus on God's judgment and grace. Strategic Highlighting: This is where my colorful pens come in! As you might have noticed in my notes, I use a color-coding system. Pink often highlights promises or blessings, yellow for key lessons or general truths, blue for commands or instructions, and green for personal application or challenges. This helps me visually categorize information and quickly find what I need later. It's a fun way to make my #notesaesthetic too! Write It Down (In My Own Words!): This is the core of summarizing. I don't just rewrite verses. I explain what I've learned in my own words, as if I'm teaching it to someone else. I try to distill paragraphs into a few concise sentences. They're for *you*! Use Abbreviations & Symbols: Speed up your note-taking with shorthand. Break It Down: If a chapter is long, summarize it in sections. My notes on Genesis 13 and 14 might be combined if they flow together thematically. Review Regularly: Periodically look back at your summaries.
