Freestyle Braids anyone?
I haven’t had these braids is 15+ years and I see why lol. No I have been wanting some good ole freestyle braids and finally asked my bestie to do them for me and did she deliver?!? I love these and plan on keeping them in for a few months to help protect, thicken, and grow this hair of mine. Soon I’ll go back to my locs but for now I’m enjoying the freedom of a black woman’s versatility. #houston #braiders #freestlyebraids #tenderheaded #cute
So many of you asked about my new freestyle braids, and let me tell you, I'm still absolutely loving them! It’s been ages since I last rocked this style, and rediscovering its magic has been such a journey. For anyone curious about what freestyle braids actually are, imagine a canvas where your braider gets to be the artist! Unlike traditional uniform braids, freestyle means there's no fixed pattern. Your stylist can mix and match different braid sizes, designs, and even incorporate cornrows with individual braids, creating a look that's uniquely YOU. One of the biggest reasons I went for these wasn't just the look, but the incredible benefits for my hair health. Freestyle braids are a fantastic protective style. They give your hair a much-needed break from daily manipulation, heat, and environmental stressors. I'm already feeling my hair strengthening and retaining moisture better, which is crucial for growth and thickness. It's like giving your natural hair a cozy, stylish blanket to thrive under. Speaking of unique styles, I've seen some of you asking about 'freestyle tribal braids.' This is such a beautiful fusion! Tribal braids often draw inspiration from traditional African braiding patterns, incorporating intricate designs, specific parting, and sometimes even beads or cowrie shells. When you combine this with the 'freestyle' element, you get a truly personalized look that can carry deep cultural meaning while still allowing for modern creativity. It's a wonderful way to honor heritage through hair art. You could have striking cornrow designs leading into long individual braids, or even incorporate geometric patterns that tell a story. The beauty of it is the endless possibilities! Now, for anyone thinking about getting freestyle braids, maintenance is key to making them last and keeping your natural hair healthy underneath. I make sure to moisturize my scalp daily with a light oil or leave-in conditioner, paying extra attention to my edges. Sleeping with a silk scarf or bonnet is a non-negotiable to prevent frizz and keep them looking neat. Gentle cleansing with a diluted shampoo or braid spray every couple of weeks helps keep my scalp fresh without disturbing the braids too much. And remember, don't keep them in for too long – usually 6-8 weeks is a good window, especially if you’re aiming for growth, to avoid tension and give your scalp a breather. Finding the right braider is crucial for freestyle braids, especially if you're tender-headed like I can be sometimes! Always look for someone who understands scalp health and doesn't braid too tightly. These braids aren't just a hairstyle; they’re a statement of confidence and freedom. It’s amazing how a change in hair can bring such a boost to your spirit. If you're looking for a versatile, protective, and absolutely stunning hairstyle that celebrates your individuality, I highly recommend diving into the world of freestyle braids. You won't regret it!
