Hey everyone! I wanted to dive a little deeper into something many of us wrestle with: those little perceived 'flaws' that society makes us feel self-conscious about. When I first started dancing 9 hours a week, I thought I'd somehow magically get rid of every single 'imperfection.' I trained hard, built strong muscles and strong legs, and even started seeing an ab line. But guess what? I still had skin flabs when sitting down, visible stretch marks, and yes, even what people call 'armpit fat.' For the longest time, these things used to bother me so much. I'd stand in front of the mirror, scrutinizing every curve and fold, wondering why my body didn't look like the airbrushed images I saw online or in magazines. It felt like I was constantly battling my own reflection. But through my journey, especially with dance, I started to realize something profound: these aren't flaws. They're just part of having a living, breathing, moving human body! Think about it – skin folds when you sit down? That's just your skin doing its job, adapting to your movements. Stretch marks? They’re often badges of growth, whether from puberty, muscle gain, or life’s changes. And 'armpit fat'? It's often just breast tissue, skin, or muscle that naturally extends into that area. It's incredibly common, and it has absolutely nothing to do with your health or beauty. It's just... there. Instead of fighting these parts of ourselves, what if we started embracing them? My dance journey taught me to appreciate my body for its strength and what it can do, rather than how it looks according to some arbitrary standard. My strong legs carry me, my muscles allow me to move gracefully, and my body works hard for me every single day. If you're struggling with similar insecurities, here's what helped me: Shift Your Focus: Instead of what your body *isn't*, think about what it is and *does*. Your body is capable of amazing things! Curate Your Feed: Unfollow accounts that make you feel inadequate. Follow diverse body-positive creators who show a range of real bodies. Talk to Yourself Kindly: Replace negative self-talk with affirmations. It sounds simple, but it really makes a difference. Tell yourself, "My body is beautiful and strong." Remember Normalcy: Almost everyone has these features. Celebrities, athletes – you name it. The difference is often clever posing, lighting, or editing. Your 'armpit fat' is just as normal as anyone else's. Let's continue to build a community where every body is celebrated. Your body is uniquely yours, and it deserves all the love and acceptance you can give it. Let's choose to love ourselves, entirely and unconditionally! 🩷
