YouTube TV Price Hike
So these stupid ass companies keep hiking the price of subscriptions. YouTube TV was great because it was cheaper and cordless. Now it’s more expensive. No thanks. You just lost a customer.
Okay, so I just got that email from YouTube TV, and honestly, my jaw dropped. Another price increase? Seriously? This time, they're bumping the Base Plan from $72.99/month to a whopping $82.99/month, effective January 13, 2025. It feels like these streaming services are testing how much we're willing to pay before we finally say 'enough is enough.' When I first switched to YouTube TV, it was because I wanted to cut the cord and save some money. It offered a great selection of channels for a reasonable price, and the flexibility was a huge plus. But with this latest YouTube TV price increase, it's starting to feel like I'm back to paying cable prices, sometimes even more. They cited "rising content costs and service investments" as the reason, which I understand to an extent, but does an extra $10 a month really justify it for us, the users? I've seen so many people asking, "Why is YouTube TV so expensive?" and I'm right there with them. What was once an affordable alternative is now a significant monthly expense. This makes me wonder about the overall value proposition. Am I really getting $82.99 worth of content and features every month? For me, the answer is leaning towards no. I'm starting to re-evaluate my "purchases and memberships" and looking at other streaming bundles or even going back to individual app subscriptions. I'm already thinking about my options. Do I switch to another live TV streaming service, which might also eventually raise its rates? Or do I go completely à la carte, subscribing only to the specific streaming platforms that have must-watch shows or movies? The whole point of cord-cutting was to escape expensive packages, and now we're seeing these services slowly creep up to fill that void. My access is set to expire by December 26, 2024, if I go through with the cancellation, and I'm really torn. Part of me wants to keep the convenience, but the other part feels like I'm being taken advantage of. I was hoping to find some kind of "youtube tv plans pricing graphic" that would make the different tiers more appealing, but it seems like the base plan is just getting pricier. It's making me question if YouTube TV is still profitable for me as a consumer. What are your thoughts? Are you sticking with YouTube TV, or are you also considering other less expensive streaming options after this price hike?
