Maha Temple
Location 📍: Maha Maha Temple, located in the center of the city, is the most important temple. It is like the royal temple of Rajthani Sukhothai. There are many ancient sites in the temple, consisting of the Presiding Pagoda, the Temple of the Punthip, the Ubothas, and a large number of 20 pagodas.
The Chairman Pagoda of the temple is a bush pagoda or lotus bud pagoda, which is a unique style of pagoda of Sukhothai art. Around the Chairman Pagoda there are 8 stupas of the retinue: the four side pagodas are Sukhothai castle pagodas, influenced by Khom art and with stucco motifs like Lanka art influences. The four corner pagodas are five pagodas with the influence of Bagan-Hirubachai-Lanna art. Around the Chairman Pagoda there are stucco images of the disciples in the posture of Sumchuli walking around the relics.
In the first headstone, it says: "..In the middle of Sukhothai, there is Bihar, there is a golden Buddha, there is a great Buddha, there is an Anram Buddha..."Also in the Mango Forest Temple headstone, B.C.E. 104. In the time of Mahatharaja Lithai also mentioned the Buddha, the golden Buddha, enshrined in the city of Sukhothai. The golden Buddha mentioned is generally understood to refer to the great father of the old inhabitants of the city, who was enshrined inside the Royal Temple of Maha. Later, His Majesty the King of the Great World, the 1st reign of Bangkok, summoned the rafting to be enshrined at the Royal Temple of Sukhotharam, Bangkok, where His Majesty was at the head of the 4th reign, named Sri Sakyamuni. Now, inside the Royal Temple of Maha Maha, the temple also appeared the large altar of the Buddha. Mentioned in Main Inscription 1, it refers to a large standing Buddha figure 18 cubits high, enshrined within the two flanking counties of the Presiding Stupa.
Next to the royal temple to the east is a high temple, so called because the temple has a high base of masonry, a cornice base, about 1 .5 meters high, an Ayutthayan architectural style, which was built later, leaving only a narrow space between the high temple front and the temple wall, not proportional to the height of the building.
Also inside the Maha Temple is a group of pagodas, organized into one group to the south of the Presiding Pagoda, centered on the five-topped pagoda, the second largest after the Presiding Pagoda. Evidence has been found of a golden courtyard inscription with a plausible statement stating that this five-topped pagoda contains the ashes of the Maha Dharma Rajalitai.
