I did Machu Picchu circuit 3 back in August and it’s my favorite world wonder so far! Let me know if you have any questions about Peru or Machu Picchu #peru #machupichu #worldwonder #travel

... Read moreMy trip to Machu Picchu last August, focusing on Circuit 3, was an absolute dream. While many people aim for Circuit 2, I found my experience on Circuit 3 to be incredibly rewarding and intimate. If you’re wondering which path to take, let me share why Circuit 3 might be the perfect choice for your adventure. For those curious about 'Machu Picchu Circuit 3b' or simply 'Circuit 3', it's one of the official routes you can take to explore the ancient citadel. Circuit 3 offers a more direct and 'up-close' encounter with the main city area. My own journey on this circuit allowed me to walk right through many key parts of the site, getting an incredible perspective that felt very personal. This route generally focuses on the lower part of the citadel, including the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb, and the Water Mirrors, allowing for a deep dive into the archaeological richness without too much climbing. I often hear that Circuit 2 is the 'most coveted' route, offering those iconic postcard views from above. However, my experience with Circuit 3 proved that you don't miss out on magic. We definitely got 'extremely up close' to the structures, which was truly breathtaking. Some online sources suggested that on Circuit 3, you wouldn't be able to walk through certain areas, but I can confirm we absolutely did! This allowed for a much more immersive experience, letting us appreciate the intricate stonework and layout in detail. If you want to feel truly inside the city, rather than just viewing it from afar, Circuit 3 is a fantastic option. It felt less crowded, allowing for more moments of quiet contemplation amidst the ancient stones. Here are some essential tips for your Machu Picchu visit: Booking Tickets in Advance: This is probably my 'biggest tip'. Don't wait until the last minute! We booked our trip only a few weeks out, and Circuit 3 was one of the only options left. To secure your preferred circuit and entry time, especially if you're traveling during peak season (like August, which I found to be the 'best time to go to Peru in general' due to drier weather), plan several months ahead. Check the official Peruvian government website or reputable tour operators to secure your entry. Consider a Tour Guide: While exploring on your own is an option, I 'highly recommend getting a tour guide' if possible. There's 'so much to learn about' the history, culture, and engineering of Machu Picchu. Our small group had a private guide (booked through 'Belmond'), and their insights truly brought the ruins to life, helping us understand what we were 'looking at' beyond just pretty stones. They can point out details you might otherwise miss and share captivating stories. Getting There (No Cable Car!): Many search for 'Machu Picchu cable car', but it's important to know there isn't one that takes you directly to the citadel. Most visitors take a bus from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) up to the entrance. To get to Aguas Calientes, you'll typically take a train from Ollantaytambo or Cusco. Plan this segment of your journey carefully, as train and bus tickets also sell out quickly, especially during high season. What to Bring: Beyond your tickets and passport, comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable. The paths, even on Circuit 3, involve steps and uneven terrain. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, and perhaps a light rain jacket, as mountain weather can be unpredictable. And keep an eye out for the resident 'alpacas' – they’re not just cute, they're actually there to 'landscape', keeping the grass tidily trimmed! Overall, my visit to Machu Picchu and specifically exploring via Circuit 3 was an unforgettable adventure. It truly is a 'must do in this lifetime'. Don't let the popularity of other circuits deter you; Circuit 3 offers incredible access and an intimate view of this ancient marvel. I hope these insights help you plan your own journey to this spectacular 'world wonder'.

Still buzzing from yesterday's surreal experience at Machu Picchu. The adventure started with an impromptu karaoke night - nothing like belting out tunes with complete strangers who somehow became instant friends by midnight. Got to bed at 1:30 AM, knowing full well I had to be up by 3:50 AM. P

🌄 First steps on the Salkantay! We kicked off the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with a 12–13 km (7.5–8 mile) hike from Challacancha to Soraypampa, climbing nearly 700 m to camp at 3,850 m. Honestly, I swear the first 20 minutes were the hardest, and I wondered if I’d even be able to do this
