We leaned towards simple, strong names, but with a touch of character. We found ourselves constantly asking, 'Does this name feel timeless? Will it grow with him?' We were definitely aiming for boy names that aren't overused, yet still felt familiar and warm. We had so many contenders! Names like Santiago really caught my eye. There's a beautiful strength and a rich cultural feel to it, and it's not one you hear every day, which was a huge plus for us. We also loved Mason – it's classic and strong, but we worried it might be getting a little too popular in our area, even though it's undeniably charming. Others like Kieran offered a lovely Irish charm, a simple yet distinctive choice that felt both modern and traditional. We even considered names like August, which has a lovely vintage feel, and Myles, which is effortlessly cool and one of those boys' names that's simple but makes an impact. Funnily enough, we subconsciously gravitated towards names with certain sounds. 'Baby boy names ending in -on' became a mini-theme for a bit! We looked at names like Dalton and of course, Mason. There’s something so grounded and familiar about that 'on' sound, yet you can still find unique options within that category. It was interesting to see how common that ending is across different styles of names, offering both classic and more contemporary vibes. As for 'red boy names,' that's an interesting one! For us, it wasn't about the color itself, but more about names that evoke a feeling of warmth, strength, or a vibrant personality. Think names with a fiery spirit, perhaps? Or names that simply 'pop' and stand out in a good way. While we didn't specifically search for 'red names,' we were definitely drawn to names that felt strong and memorable, like a bright, bold color in a sea of pastels. Maybe a name like Sage, which has a natural, earthy yet distinct feel, could fall into that category of 'vibrant' names for someone else! We also had names like Tucker and even Blue on our list at different points. Tucker has such a friendly, approachable vibe that makes you smile, and Blue, while unconventional, felt wonderfully serene and truly unique. It truly shows how diverse your naming journey can be, and how many different qualities you might look for in a name! After all the lists, the debates, and the 'almosts,' we finally landed on Sage. It felt right. It's simple, earthy, gentle, yet carries wisdom and strength. It's not overly common, which ticked our 'not overused' box, and it just resonated with both of us. The journey to his name was a long one, full of beautiful names we adored but ultimately didn’t choose for one reason or another.
