So back in mid March I took a leap and moved from Georgia to Minnesota and let’s say it didn’t go as planned. I have moved back home to my hometown in North Carolina because it’s where my peace and happiness lies. My body rejected everything Minnesota like my hair had started thinning, I lost over 20 lbs and I felt drained all the time and while dealing with all of that it’s like I had no one to really talk to because I didn’t know anyone but one person there and they were horrible so I kept my distance from them at all cost possible. I’m happy to now be back home around warm embracing friends and family. The healing journey continues on!!! #lemon8diarychallenge

I certainly felt that way when I decided to pack up my life in Georgia and head north to Minnesota in mid-March. I envisioned new adventures, new connections, and a vibrant new chapter. What I didn't anticipate was that my body and spirit would quite literally reject the change, leading me on a different kind of journey—one back to where my peace truly lies.
For many, Minnesota is a wonderful place, but for me, it was a profound mismatch. The physical toll was undeniable: my hair started thinning, I lost over 20 lbs, and I felt a constant, draining fatigue. Reflecting now, I realize how much the drastic change in environment, especially the climate coming from the South, contributed to this. The short, grey days and intense cold can profoundly impact one's mood and physical well-being, something I hadn't truly prepared for. It's more than just bundling up; it's about how your entire system reacts to prolonged shifts in sunlight and temperature.
The social aspect was just as challenging. Landing in a new place with only one acquaintance, who unfortunately turned out to be toxic, left me feeling incredibly isolated. Building a community from scratch is hard enough, but trying to do so while feeling unwell and disconnected is an almost impossible task. I yearned for the warmth of genuine connections, the kind you find with friends and family who truly embrace you. This deep sense of loneliness amplified all the other struggles, making it clear that this particular 'journey' wasn't leading me to happiness.
It took courage to admit that this wasn't working. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is to acknowledge when a path isn't serving your highest good and to pivot. My decision to move back to my hometown in North Carolina wasn't a failure; it was an act of self-preservation. It was about listening to my body's signals and honoring my need for peace and happiness. The image of me, taking a mirror selfie, with "TAKE The Journey" overlaid, truly resonates with this experience. It wasn't the journey I expected, but it was a journey of self-discovery nonetheless.
Returning home wasn't an instant fix, but it was the start of a crucial healing process. Being surrounded by warm, familiar faces, reconnecting with my roots, and simply being in an environment that felt natural to me began to mend what had fractured. It's a reminder that sometimes, what makes a place 'great' isn't its reputation, but how it aligns with your personal well-being. Finding my way back to North Carolina and rediscovering joy has been a testament to the fact that home isn't just a place, but a feeling of belonging and peace. I'm actively using platforms like Lemon8 to share my experiences and connect with others who might be navigating their own challenging journeys, hoping my story can offer some comfort or insight.
