Fen’Harel, the Dread Wolf
Back when Dragon Age: Inquisition came out, I made a mask of Fen’Harel (aka Solas) in his Wolf form and had such a fun time painting all the small details.
Veilguard is on my list, but I need to play a few other games that’s been on the back burner first 😄
Creating my Fen'Harel Dread Wolf mask was truly a labor of love, and looking back, I'm still so proud of how it turned out! For any fellow Dragon Age fans out there wondering about the process, I wanted to share a bit more about how this black leather wolf mask came to life. When Dragon Age: Inquisition first launched, Solas's true identity as Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf, absolutely captivated me. His complex character and the mystery surrounding him made me want to bring his iconic wolf form to life in a tangible way. A mask felt like the perfect medium – something both artistic and wearable, capturing the essence of the elven god of betrayal. The choice of black leather wasn't just for aesthetics; it offered a fantastic base for the intricate details I envisioned. Working with leather can be challenging, but it provides such a unique texture and durability. After shaping the wolf's fierce silhouette, the real fun began with the detailing. I spent countless hours painting, meticulously adding those intricate gold and silver patterns to mimic ancient elven artistry. The idea of 'multiple eye patterns and red pupils' was precisely what I aimed for! I felt it added an extra layer of mystique, hinting at Fen'Harel's ancient power and otherworldly gaze. The red pupils, in particular, give it that piercing, almost warning look. If you're thinking of trying your hand at a leather mask, my biggest tip is to be patient with the layers of paint and sealant. Each detail, from the smallest swirl to the sharp lines around the eyes, builds up the character. I used a variety of fine brushes and metallic acrylics to get that shimmering effect, making the gold and silver really pop against the dark leather. This mask wasn't just a craft project; it was a way to connect with the Dragon Age universe on a deeper level. Imagining it as part of a full Fen'Harel or Solas cosplay makes me so excited. While I haven't completed a full costume yet, having this mask makes me feel one step closer. With Dragon Age: Veilguard on the horizon, it's a perfect time to revisit these beloved characters and perhaps even inspire new creations. Who knows what other incredible designs we'll see inspired by the upcoming game?
