You know, when I first got my Great Dane, I never really thought of her as a 'bodyguard dog,' but that's exactly what she's become – my giant, loyal shadow! It's actually pretty hilarious sometimes how dedicated she is to keeping tabs on me. I swear, she'll wander off for literally a minute, and then she's back, poking her head around the corner or nudging me with her nose, just to make sure I'm still there and safe. It happens multiple times an hour; she just can't stand to be out of sight for too long! It's like she's doing her rounds, checking in on her most prized possession. I even caught her doing it about five times in two minutes once when I was just in the kitchen – it's both endearing and a little comical how vigilant she is! People often think Great Danes are just gentle giants, and mine absolutely is a sweetheart, but there's a definite protective instinct that comes with that massive size. Just her presence alone is usually enough to deter anyone with bad intentions. When we're out walking, she's always aware of our surroundings, and if someone approaches too quickly or acts a bit suspicious, she'll subtly position herself between me and them. No growling or aggression, just a silent, imposing barrier. It's reassuring, to say the least, to have such a formidable doggy watching over me. It truly gives me a sense of peace knowing she's got my back, even if her methods are sometimes just being incredibly present! But beyond the protective instinct, she's truly my bestie. Her 'bodyguard' role isn't about being scary; it's about pure, unconditional love and loyalty. She simply wants to be with me and ensure I'm okay. If I'm feeling down, she's right there, resting her head on my lap, offering comfort. If I'm excited, she wags her tail with such enthusiasm, sharing in my joy. This deep bond is what makes her such an incredible bodyguard dog. It's not a job for her; it's just who she is as my companion and family member. The way she looks at me, it’s clear I’m her whole world, and that feeling is definitely mutual. I remember one time, I was just sitting in the living room, and she was napping. My phone buzzed loudly, and she instantly lifted her head, looking around with a concerned expression, as if to say, "What was that? Are you alright?"
