Almost time to take these off but wanted to share them before I did because I’m beyond obsessed and proud of how they came out.
About a year ago I stopped going to the salon all together. I wanted to focus on my nail health and the added savings were big (where I live a basic set is over $100 before tip)
6 months ago I switched entirely to traditional nail polish which has been interesting but SO HELPFUL in my nail health journey. My nails are longer and trainings than ever.
But for my recent Disney vacation I wanted something that would last the full week of parks, pools, and sun without any chipping so I went back to my home gel routine…and boy am I proud of how this set came out. They’re a little grown out by now (2 weeks in)
... Read moreYou guys, I've been getting so many questions about how I achieved my recent Princess Aurora-inspired aura nails, especially after my Disney trip! It's one thing to have pretty nails, but it's another to have them perfectly capture that fairytale magic and last through all the park adventures. I'm so excited to share my step-by-step process with you, especially if you're looking to save some money and boost your nail health like I did!
When I thought about Princess Aurora, I pictured soft, dreamy pinks, a touch of golden sparkle, and that ethereal, glowing quality. Aura nails are perfect for this vibe – they create such a beautiful, diffused color effect that feels straight out of a fairytale. My goal was to translate that into a long-lasting gel manicure, perfect for all the fun without worrying about chips.
Here’s how I created my own DIY Princess Aurora Aura Nails:
Step One: The Foundation (Base Color)
First, a good base is key! After prepping my nails (filing, pushing cuticles, light buffing), I applied a thin layer of my favorite base coat. This protects your natural nail and gives the gel something to adhere to. I cured this under my LED lamp for 60 seconds. Then, I applied 1-2 coats of a light, milky pink or nude color gel polish (like 'b074' from my kit), curing each layer for 60 seconds. This creates the perfect canvas for the aura effect.
Step Two: Creating the Magical Aura Glow
Now for the signature aura! I picked a slightly darker or more vibrant pink color gel polish (you could even use a different shade like 'b684' as mentioned in some kits for contrast). Instead of painting, I used a small, dense makeup sponge applicator (or even a dedicated nail art sponge) to lightly dab the color onto the center of each nail. The key is to create a soft, diffused gradient, building up the color gradually until you have that perfect glowing effect. Cure for 60 seconds after you're happy with the blend.
Step Three: Adding Fairytale Sparkle
What's Aurora without a little shimmer? I then applied a gorgeous glitter gel polish (like 'a11' mentioned in the OCR) right over the center of the aura, focusing on where the color is most concentrated. This adds that extra dimension and makes the nails truly sparkle in the sun – perfect for Disney parks! Cure this layer for 60 seconds.
Step Four: Enchanting Details (Optional Mickey Art!)
To make them truly Disney-ready, I sometimes add tiny accents. The OCR mentioned using a dot applicator for designs like Mickey heads! While my base was Aurora-inspired, a tiny white or black Mickey silhouette near the cuticle or on an accent nail can be a super cute nod to Disney without overpowering the aura. Just use a regular gel polish for these details and cure.
Step Five: Sealing the Spell (Top Coat)
Finally, a good top coat is non-negotiable for durability and shine. I applied a generous layer of gel top coat, making sure to cap the free edge of each nail. This protects your design from chipping and gives it that salon-quality gloss. Cure for 90-120 seconds for a super strong finish. Don't forget to wipe off the tacky layer with rubbing alcohol if your top coat isn't 'no-wipe'!
Seriously, these gel aura nails lasted my entire Disney vacation without a single chip, from splashing in the pool to riding all the rides. The savings from doing it myself meant more money for souvenirs, too! If you're new to gel, don't be intimidated. Practice makes perfect, and there are tons of affordable starter kits out there. Plus, keeping up with regular cuticle oil and hand cream will keep your nails and cuticles looking great, making your DIY manicures even more stunning. Give it a try, and let me know if you create your own Princess Aurora-inspired magic!
Stop that’s so pretty!
