Help Me Choose My Summer Blush

So I’m a bush bb. I have a huge collection and it’s a can’t stop won’t stop kind of situation. I’m getting low on my favorite Dior Rosewood and need to restock but want to add another to the collection for summer.

Here’s what I swached:

▪️Dior “Rosewood” just to get a baseline. She is my all time favorite

▪️Hourglass “Diffused Heat” I love the Ambient blushes. I have had a few over the years but the colors have updated with time. They’re beautiful. I think I may be leaning into this one

▪️Hourglass “Sublime Flush” same, but my concern for this is that it’s not a lot of color payoff compared with the other (or that could just be my forearm is more than than my wrist 🤷🏼‍♀️)

▪️Laura Mercier “Rose” this is so pretty but maybe too pigmented? Like it may be too bold for my coloration?

▪️Laura Mercier “Strawberry” so I have a girlfriend who swears by this. Her blush is always stunning and every time I ask her what she’s wearing, this is what she has on. It’s by far the most “different” of the collection

... Read morePicking a new summer blush can be such a fun challenge, especially with so many gorgeous options from brands like Dior, Hourglass, and Laura Mercier. I totally get the struggle of wanting to find that perfect shade that feels fresh and exciting for the season! It’s not just about the color, but also how it wears and enhances your natural beauty. Choosing Your Summer Blush: More Than Just a Pretty Swatch When I'm trying to decide on a new blush, especially for summer, I look beyond just the initial swatch. Here's what I consider: Understanding Your Skin Tone: This is crucial! If you have cooler undertones, shades like a true pink or berry (think a classic 'Rosewood' or a soft 'Rose') can be incredibly flattering. Warmer undertones often glow with peaches, corals, or even a 'Strawberry' hue. For neutral skin tones, you often have the luxury of pulling off both! Knowing your undertone helps narrow down the vast options, making sure your chosen blush truly complements your complexion, whether you're looking for a 'light summer palette' or something deeper. Formula Matters for Summer: Summer heat and humidity mean your blush needs to perform. Cream and liquid blushes often give a more natural, dewy finish that can look beautiful on dry or normal skin, and they blend seamlessly. Powder blushes, like many from Hourglass or Laura Mercier, are fantastic for oilier skin types or for layering over creams to boost longevity. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting blushes, for example, often have a finely milled powder that imparts a lovely glow without looking glittery, like 'Diffused Heat' or 'Sublime Flush'. Longevity is Key: No one wants their blush to disappear by noon! Look for formulas that promise long wear. Layering a cream blush under a powder blush can significantly extend its wear time, giving you that 'aesthetic blush makeup' look all day. A good setting spray can also be your best friend during warmer months. Mastering the "Blush Makeup Aesthetic": Tips for Application Once you've got your beautiful new blush, how you apply it can make all the difference in achieving that perfect 'blush makeup aesthetic'. Placement for a Flushed Look: For a natural, 'flush' from within look, I like to apply blush to the apples of my cheeks and blend upwards towards my temples. This gives a lifted effect. If you want a more sun-kissed vibe, a little across the bridge of your nose can also work wonders. To distinguish between a natural 'flush' and a more intentional 'blush' look, remember that a flush is often more diffused and subtle, while blush can be more strategically placed for contour or bold color. Layering for Impact: For those days you want your 'pink blush makeup aesthetic' to really pop, try layering! Apply a sheer wash of a cream blush first, then set it with a coordinating powder blush. This intensifies the color and helps it last longer. Brush Choice: A fluffy brush for a diffused, soft look, or a denser brush for more intense color payoff. For cream blushes, I often use my fingertips or a damp beauty sponge. A Closer Look at Your Swatches: Dior, Hourglass, Laura Mercier Based on your swatches, you've got some incredible contenders! Dior 'Rosewood': This shade is a cult classic for a reason. It's often described as a sophisticated rosy nude that works on many skin tones, providing a beautiful, natural warmth and depth. It's truly a luxury experience, known for its smooth texture and elegant finish. Hourglass 'Diffused Heat' & 'Sublime Flush': Hourglass blushes are famous for their Ambient Lighting technology, which gives a soft-focus, luminous glow. 'Diffused Heat' often leans towards a poppy, vibrant coral-peach, while 'Sublime Flush' tends to be a softer, more ethereal pink. Both are stunning for adding a radiant, healthy glow that feels very summery. Laura Mercier 'Rose' & 'Strawberry': Laura Mercier blushes are known for their blendability and pigment. 'Rose' offers a classic, flattering pink that can brighten up any look. 'Strawberry', as your friend proves, can be a showstopper! It's likely a more vibrant, perhaps even slightly bold, red-pink that can create a truly unique and playful summer statement. I hope these insights help you weigh your options and make the perfect choice for your next summer blush! It's exciting to add a new favorite to your collection.
