Things I Miss - Friends Edition -
Adulting is hard and even harder when doing it alone (or at least it feeling like you are). I’m not alone by any means but it’s that super close friendship I’m missing. I’ve always had a best friend (or multiple) I’ve done life with in about every season of my life. Leaving college, getting married and becoming a mother has really shown how I don’t have a friend like that in this season of life and it breaks my heart. Ive realized I’ve come to know life without friends by my side. I have my best friends from college but we’re all in different stages of life and in different states 😢 and yes I’m close with family and my sister-in-law but there’s just something different about a true best friend that’s not related to you in any way.
I miss having a “run-around” buddy that you simply just did every day things together. Someone who puts up with my quirks and weirdness. Someone to be wierd with no matter where or who is around!
The transition into adulthood can bring a whirlwind of changes, and one of the most challenging aspects is often the evolution of friendships. Many people find that their close friendships evolve or fade, especially after major life events like finishing college, marrying, or starting a family. Life often takes us to different states or stages, which can make it difficult to maintain those deeper connections we once cherished. It’s common to feel the loss of a best friend who is not just part of our family but someone with whom we’ve shared endless memories. A 'run-around buddy'—someone who knows your quirks, shares spontaneous adventures, and understands your authenticity—can often be missed in our busy lives. This longing highlights the importance of nurturing friendships, regardless of the distance. Whether it’s set routine calls, planned visits, or simply sending a message to reminisce, it’s essential to make an effort to keep these relationships alive. This conveys an understanding that while life changes, true friendships can remain resilient. Remember to cherish those unique bonds and find ways to reconnect, as they're crucial for our emotional well-being. Moreover, adult friendships can also be about finding new connections and forming bonds with those who resonate with our current phase in life. Engaging in community groups, shared interests, or local meetups can open doors to new friendships that complement our evolving paths. Embrace the idea that although certain friendships may change, there is always the potential for new connections that can enrich your life just as deeply.
