i wrote this awhile ago when I was in love with a boy who didn’t love me the way I loved him and we would hang out all the time and we’re low key bestfriends. when I met him he told me that in life he’d always be alone and I decided from there that he never would be again. that’s where the title came from. he could tell me when he’s lonely and I would be there. in the song the words “I’d break my heart to be with you” are from id be there for him no matter even though it broke my heart to be around him because it was unreciprocated love. we are now together 2 years.
When it comes to songwriting, personal experiences often serve as the best source of inspiration. The narrative of longing and unreciprocated love can evoke profound emotions, resonating deeply with many listeners. This particular song arose from a backdrop of complex feelings, where love was not mutual but was rich in meaning. The lyrics reflect the anguish of feeling deeply for someone who seemingly doesn’t feel the same, a theme that resonates with countless individuals navigating complex romantic relationships. Moreover, loneliness is a universal theme found not only in love songs but across multiple genres of music. The idea of being there for someone, despite the emotional toll, touches on a profound aspect of human connections. The lines in the song convey a sense of commitment and understanding that transcends mere attraction, capturing the essence of true friendship and emotional support. Whether in pop, rock, or indie styles, this concept can be explored creatively to capture an authentic listener experience. In recent years, there has been a surge in songs that tackle themes of loneliness and the struggles of unrequited love, furthering conversations around mental health and emotion. Artists like Billie Eilish, Lewis Capaldi, and many others have tapped into these feelings, creating music that speaks directly to those experiencing similar situations.
