But what truly sets it apart is the 'grinder salad' – a fresh, crunchy mix of shredded lettuce, thinly sliced onions, and sometimes peppers, all tossed in a creamy, zesty Italian dressing. My personal twist, the ITALIAN GRINDER GRILLED CHEESE, takes all the best parts of that classic Italian Grinder and elevates it to ultimate comfort food status. I mean, who can resist a truly melty grilled cheese? The idea struck me one day: what if I could capture that iconic grinder flavor, the savory meats, the tangy salad, and wrap it all up in buttery, crispy bread with gooey, melted cheese? The result is pure magic. Here’s how I make my ultimate ITALIAN GRINDER GRILLED CHEESE and some tips for you to try it at home: First, the bread is key. I love using a good quality sourdough or a hearty Italian loaf, sliced about an inch thick. Buttering the outsides generously is a must for that golden, crispy crust. For the fillings, start with your cheeses. I go for a mix of provolone for its classic Italian flavor and mozzarella for that incredible cheese pull.
