OUR 10+ YEAR FLANK STEAK RECIPE
For over 10 years, this has been our go-to flank steak recipe… and we still haven’t found one we like better. 🥩
It’s simple, takes just a few ingredients, and turns out tender and flavorful every single time.
Our marinade (for 2 lbs or less):
• 1 small bottle A.1. Sauce
• 1 small bottle Heinz 57
• About 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Marinate overnight (or up to 24 hours) in a sealed container or zip-top bag.
We grill ours about 5 minutes per side for medium-rare, let it rest under foil for 5–8 minutes, then slice it nice and thin.
It’s perfect as a steak dinner, but the leftovers make some of the best steak tacos. 🌮

One of the reasons this flank steak recipe has remained a favorite for over a decade is its incredible simplicity combined with consistently delicious results. Flank steak can be a tough cut if not prepared correctly, but using a marinade made of familiar pantry staples like A.1. Sauce, Heinz 57, and Worcestershire sauce helps break down the fibers and infuse the meat with a balanced savory-sweet flavor. In my experience, marinating the steak overnight or even up to 24 hours is key to achieving maximum tenderness and flavor. This also allows the flavors to deeply penetrate the meat. When it's time to cook, grilling the steak quickly on high heat for about 5 minutes per side locks in the juices and creates a beautiful crust while keeping the interior medium-rare. Resting the steak under foil before slicing is an important step that not many home cooks pay attention to. This resting period lets the juices redistribute, making each bite juicy and tender. I always slice the steak thinly, against the grain, which makes it easier to chew and highlights the meat’s tenderness. What’s also fantastic about this recipe is its versatility. While it’s a great centerpiece for a steak dinner, the leftovers are perfect for steak tacos. Simply warm up tortillas and add thin slices of the steak along with your favorite toppings like fresh cilantro, lime, diced onions, and a bit of salsa for a quick and flavorful meal. If you're looking for an easy, flavorful steak recipe that doesn’t require extraordinary ingredients or complicated steps, this one has stood the test of time. It’s ideal for weeknight dinners, weekend cookouts, or whenever you want a reliable meal that impresses without stress.
