Styling the top layer of wavy hair can often be the trickiest part of achieving a consistent, beautiful wave pattern. From my personal experience, the key is to start when your hair is still dripping wet, as this allows the waves to form naturally without falling flat. After applying your favorite curl-enhancing product, scrunch your hair upwards towards the scalp repeatedly to encourage wave formation. One challenge many face is the top layer staying straight or looking limp compared to the rest of the hair. To tackle this, I gently lift the top layers while scrunching and sometimes diffuse with a hairdryer set on low heat and low speed, keeping the hair upside down for added volume. I’ve found that avoiding heavy products on the top layer helps prevent it from weighing down and becoming straight. Lightweight mousses or gels work well here. Also, try not to brush or comb after styling—this can break up the waves and lead to frizz. Remember, patience is essential; scrunching extensively helps training the hair to adopt a wavy texture over time. Incorporating products designed for wavy hair routines can make a huge difference, ensuring your waves stay bouncy and full from roots to tips.
