Let’s help out all the baby witches/conjurers/mystics/practitioners out there with some simple, easy-to-use tips or ideas to get them started ✨
Here’s some of mine:
🧿 Put amethyst, a spoonful of unused coffee grounds and some pine needles in a clear jar and keep it on your nightstand. This helps ward off evil and negative energy while you sleep & dream 💭
🧿 Record your journey in a book of shadows or grimoire. You’ll appreciate looking back and seeing how far you’ve come.
🧿 If you plan to use plants and herbs in your practice- RESEARCH what is safe to touch, burn and ingest.
🧿 Start an altar with crystals, candles, spell jars and anything else you’d like to use. If you don’t know which crystals to start with- pick the ones that call to you first. Research them, understand their purpose and go from there. The items on your altar serve a great purpose- make it personal and fitted to your desires.
Any other witchy tips you wanna share? Let’s help others out in their journey! 💭
Note: You may not personally believe or practice any of this and that’s okay. But I don’t condone negativity or putting others down for what they believe. This is a safe space 🥰✨
... Read moreAs a fellow traveler on this magical path, I remember how overwhelming it felt to start! Beyond the foundational tips like setting up an altar or keeping a Book of Shadows, I've gathered a few more insights that truly helped me deepen my practice.
First, let's talk about that altar. It doesn't need to be grand! Mine started on a small shelf with just a candle (a simple white one is perfect for all intentions), a crystal (my first was a clear quartz!), and a small bowl of salt for cleansing. Think of it as your sacred space, a place to connect with your intentions. You can add elements representing the four directions or elements, like a feather for air, a small stone for earth, a cup of water for water, and a candle for fire. Over time, you might find yourself adding other meaningful items, perhaps even a small 'potion bottle' to hold moon water or a personal blend of protective herbs. You might also consider symbolic tools like an athame (a ceremonial dagger) for directing energy, though for beginners, even a pointed finger works perfectly!
Regarding herbs and plants, always prioritize safety, as mentioned in the main article. For beginners, I love recommending common, easily accessible herbs. Rosemary is a powerful all-rounder for protection, cleansing, and memory – you can burn it (safely!) like sage or add it to a protective sachet. Lavender is fantastic for peace, calm, and sleep, perfect for a dream sachet near your bed. Even simple kitchen herbs like basil for prosperity or thyme for courage can be potent additions to your practice. Always research what you're using, focusing on its magical properties and any safety considerations.
For those curious about "baby witch spells," remember that magic is often about intention and energy. A simple protection jar spell is a great starting point. In a small jar, combine salt (for purification), rosemary (for protection), a few drops of protective essential oil (like frankincense or cypress), and perhaps a small piece of black tourmaline or obsidian. Seal it with a white candle wax, focusing your intention on creating a protective barrier around yourself or your home. Place it near your front door or in your bedroom. This isn't about grand incantations but about directing your will.
Another tip I swear by is grounding. Before any spell work or divination, take a few deep breaths and imagine roots growing from your feet deep into the earth. This helps center your energy and keeps you from feeling scattered. It’s a simple but profound way to prepare yourself.
Finally, your Book of Shadows or grimoire isn't just for recording spells. It's a personal journal of your spiritual growth. Jot down your dreams, synchronicities you notice, feelings after meditations, and even your thoughts on different deities or practices. I also use mine to draw sigils or symbols that resonate with me, like a 'key' symbol for unlocking intuition or new knowledge. The more you pour into it, the more it becomes a reflection of your unique magical journey. Remember, there's no single "right" way to be a witch; trust your intuition and enjoy the exploration!
I legit finally feel at a place to start being intentional with my magic and researching.
Can you talk more about the book of shadows… is there certain things to add and things to not put in ?
I’m a baby witch myself, but a super easy one I do for abundance is I put a dime in my left shoe when I leave the house
