After 426 days of waking at 2AM with racing thoughts, replaying every conversation, spiraling about tomorrow’s tasks.

These are the 3 steps that changed everything:

Step 1: Stop trying to rest away stored stress. Your body is still processing stress from days ago while you pile more on top.

Step 2: Learn to complete the stress cycle in real time. Not suppress it. Not push through it. Complete it.

Step 3: Regulate your nervous system before you crash. Not after you’ve already completely exhausted at 7pm that you cannot be present with your loved ones.

... Read moreDealing with stress that disrupts your sleep can be overwhelming, especially when it becomes a repetitive cycle like waking at 2 AM with racing thoughts. From my experience, the journey to reclaiming restful nights involves more than just trying to fall back asleep or distracting the mind. The first step is recognizing that rest alone doesn’t erase accumulated stress. Our bodies carry the imprint of past stressors, and without addressing them, stress builds up like a heavy backpack we keep wearing. Instead of pushing through or suppressing these feelings, I found that learning to complete the stress cycle in the moment was vital. This means allowing myself to feel the stress fully, whether through breathing exercises, movement, or emotional expression, which ultimately moves the tension through and out of the body. The third, and perhaps most impactful realization, is that nervous system regulation needs to happen proactively. Waiting until exhaustion hits at the end of the day is too late and leads to burnout that affects relationships and daily functioning. By incorporating small nervous system regulation practices throughout the day—such as grounding techniques, mindful pauses, and gentle physical activity—I noticed a meaningful shift in my ability to stay present and calm, especially in stressful situations. These steps align with what many experts describe about stress and nervous system health, confirming that managing stress is an active, ongoing process rather than a passive state. Implementing this approach has profoundly changed my nights and overall well-being, showing that healing from stress is possible with intentional practice.
