hii 👋 i got another hair inspo post!! i LOVE the variety that comes with blonde hair, i'm even tempted to go lighter now 🫣
though here's the thing: i'm not gonna recommend products this time to achieve similar results, lightening your hair can be a damaging process if done incorrectly, so i'd recommend going to a professional you trust (or at the very least, a friend you can trust to see the back of your head). but, as a hairstylist myself, i will give some tips to make the process and overall maintenance a lot easier :) which includes:
🧸 it's more likely than not that your hair may feel a little drier after lightening, so get yourself a nice hair mask to use weekly in order to give your hair some extra moisture and love! my personal favorites are the Mielle Rosemary and Mint Strengthening Masque and the Joico K-Pak Reconstructor :)
🧸 if you're going to a professional, bring reference photos of the type of blonde you want! there are so many variations of blonde out there, and your definition of "icy" blonde can be very different than someone else's. getting clear references ensures there is no confusion between what you want :)
🧸 if you have previous color in your hair, expect going lighter to be a longer process; taking out artificial color is a lot more challenging compared to natural color, and you may need to do multiple rounds depending on how light you want it! just make sure you're giving your hair some extra love between services with masks and treatments!
🧸 be cautious if you're gonna go swimming very soon after lightening your hair, salty water can dry out the hair more and chlorine can stain the hair a greenish hue (funnily enough, you can use ketchup as a mask to counteract any green). wait about 2 weeks after lightening to play it safe :)
there's so much more i can rant about when it comes to going blonde, but i'm gonna save those tips for later. the most important thing is to keep your hair moisturized :) and remember, a good stylist will prioritize the hair's health over anything else! have a good one y'all 🫶
