Identity crisis in my 30s | late night write
Entry from my journal…
“Worry
Worry why?
Why worry ?
Why fear?
Push thru that shit
For real tho, why the fuck do peoples opinion matter?
Why do you care so much?
People don’t give a shit about you? So why care?
It’s stoping you from being you.
Caring about people is stoping you from caring about you.. like what?
U feel u haven’t found your creative medium….
Because why? Are u trying to be like someone your not?
Like for real….
🗣️WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?”

To keep it simple….
For almost all my life I have been caring about what other people think of me. Since a young age (coming from a black family, iykyk) judgment surrounded me. Your too this and too that. I became a people pleaser and it has taken me 30+ years to finally say I am done. It has caused me to put my self on the back burner and now I am struggling with Who I am, AUTHENTICALLY.
Has anyone experienced this before? How did you get through and find your authenticity?

Navigating an identity crisis in your 30s can be a profound challenge, often stemming from years of placing others' opinions before your own. This journey typically involves reshaping your understanding of individuality as you confront societal expectations and personal fears. During this period, it's crucial to engage in self-reflection to recognize the aspects of yourself that may have been overshadowed by the desire to please others. This can include evaluating the values you hold and understanding which ones genuinely resonate with you versus those imposed by external influences. One effective approach is journaling, which serves as a therapeutic outlet to express feelings and thoughts without judgment. Documenting your experiences can illuminate patterns in your behavior and thought processes, aiding you in identifying your authentic self. Additionally, connecting with communities—like #blackgirlswrite or #unapologeticallyyourself—provides support and shared experiences, showing you that many others are navigating similar identity queries. Vulnerability plays a key role in this transformation. Embracing your flaws and uncertainties encourages personal growth while strengthening your sense of self. Furthermore, consider exploring various creative mediums; whether it's writing, art, or other forms of expression, these avenues can help clarify your identity and passions. Ultimately, this journey is about understanding who you are at your core, free from external pressures and expectations.
