Our nighttime routine is now filled with pet care for Baby, which happens to look just like Bown’s 🥺
A big part of Baby’s pet night routine is making sure she’s comfortable and cared for before bed. Every evening, we do one of her twice-daily bandage changes, check her arm, clean the area, and make sure everything looks good before settling in for the night. Plus she also gets her medications and supplements.
It’s not exactly the cozy pet night routine I imagined years ago, but it’s become part of how we care for her and help keep her comfortable, and it’s our version of cozy! She also looks forward to all the treats she gets!🐾🦴
At 15 and a half years old, Baby is managing cancer, Addison’s disease, mitral valve disease, pulmonary hypertension, a heart murmur, and vestibular disease. Despite everything on that list, she’s still doing remarkably well and continues to enjoy her daily routines, meals, cuddles, and bedtime rituals.🥹
In many ways, we’re in a very similar situation to what we experienced with Bown. The biggest difference is that we’re currently able to keep Baby on her chemotherapy medication while continuing to manage her arm. We’re grateful for every day that she’s responding well and able to maintain her quality of life and so far she loves being here and being center of my entire universe! I love being her mommy!
A good night routine helps pets feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. For us, that means medications, bandage changes, monitoring her progress, plenty of affection, and making sure she’s ready to get a good night’s rest.
One thing I’ve learned through caring for senior dogs with complex medical conditions is that consistency matters. The little things — staying on schedule with treatments, paying attention to changes, and creating a calm bedtime routine — can make a big difference. My dogs love their nighttime music so I have to make sure I play that or they will not settle in!
Tonight’s routine may look a little different than most, but seeing Baby settle in comfortably at the end of the day is always worth it!❤️
