My dog is sick and we don’t know what’s going on with him! I’m turing to the public for any tips you can provide!
The past several months with Kilo have been one of the hardest journeys we’ve ever been on, and we’re still searching for answers!💔
It all started with changes in his mobility. He began walking with tiny, slow, painful steps, no putting weight his TPLO leg, struggling to stand, and holding his head down almost all the time. Over the last few days, things have changed even more. He developed a fever (103°), very red eyes, thick green discharge from his eyes, and one eye became swollen. He also has extreme pain and muscle spasms in his neck, and even gentle touch seems to make him uncomfortable.
Despite all of this, he’s still eating, drinking, and wanting to be with us. He just looks so tired and uncomfortable.
So far, we’ve done X-rays, extensive bloodwork, lymphoma testing, imaging, and ruled out conditions like Addison’s disease earlier this year. His most recent X-rays were focused on his leg, and he’s currently being treated with Galliprant for pain and clindamycin while we see if the antibiotics help. If things don’t improve, more bloodwork and additional testing are next.
At this point, we’re trying to figure out whether this is severe arthritis, a deep infection, a tick-borne illness, an autoimmune condition, something neurological, or something else entirely.
If you’ve ever experienced anything similar with your dog, or if you’re a veterinarian or veterinary professional with thoughts on what questions we should be asking or what testing we should discuss next, we’d truly appreciate hearing from you!!
Please keep Kilo in your thoughts. We’re doing everything we can to get him the answers he deserves and get him feeling better asap!❤️🐾

Watching a beloved dog struggle with unexplained symptoms is heart-wrenching, especially when the cause remains elusive despite numerous tests. From personal experience caring for a dog with complex symptoms like Kilo’s, I learned how important it is to keep detailed notes on symptom changes and responses to treatments. The presence of thick green discharge and swollen eyes often signals a serious eye infection or possibly an immune-related condition. The combination of fever, muscle spasms, and mobility problems can sometimes point to tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme disease or ehrlichiosis, which can have neurological and musculoskeletal effects. Administering antibiotics like clindamycin is a common approach to suspected bacterial infections, but if symptoms persist or worsen, it’s crucial to consider further diagnostics like advanced imaging (MRI or CT) to detect neurological issues or deep infections not visible on X-rays. Also, autoimmune diseases or inflammatory conditions might explain persistent neck pain and muscle spasms, warranting blood tests for autoimmune markers. Pain management with medications like Galliprant helps maintain Kilo’s comfort during this uncertain period. Community support plays a vital role too. Sharing case details with veterinarians and experienced dog owners can uncover overlooked possibilities or novel therapies. Remember, while it’s difficult to see your dog in discomfort, consistent veterinary follow-up paired with compassionate care and vigilant observation increases the chances of identifying the root cause and improving your pet’s quality of life. Keep encouraging Kilo’s eating and drinking habits and provide a calm environment, as these small steps enhance recovery prospects during such challenging health journeys.
