RSV Season & Babies
This is my first RSV Season as a mom, our daughter was born in February so at the tail end of it. So thankfully we didn’t have to worry too much when she was a new born. We weren’t going out of the house and our family’s were under strict rules not to kiss her.
This RSV season I feel like it’s just starting, and I’m learning how to navigate it. Due to our daughter’s age she had to receive two doses of the flu shot which she is getting her first dose of next week. I’m grateful that she is able to get it. I actually got the flu while pregnant with her, but my flu shot saved me from the worst of the symptoms.
Yesterday we made a family trip to the consignment shop. Which is very exciting for an almost 8 month old. Lots of things and people to look at. So I was surprised when another woman stopped in front of the store to talk to us. She had stopped to ask how old she is. You know the normal you have a baby chit chat. Then before I realized it she was reaching out for our daughter’s leg which I quickly said “please don’t touch her it’s RSV season” the lady seems a little taken back by my comment. Which is okay I wanted her to move away at this point.
How do you handle people trying to touch your baby?

Lastly, create a safety plan for outings—be proactive by informing others about your baby’s health needs and being assertive when it comes to personal space. Pharmacist here 👋🏻 I think you are totally valid in asking people to not touch your baby - while it may seem harsh, it’s better than the alternative! Vaccinations help, but it’s important to practice proper hygiene as well! People just don’t get that nowadays. Wishing you the best during RSV season!!
