Let’s Walk Despicable Me Series
I personally am very fond of the Despicable Me series. I remember seeing the first one in theatre’s with my mom, and the second one with both my parents at the theatre. The only movie in this series that was new to me was Minions The Rise of Gru which I was at first a little hesitant towards. Although I truly enjoyed that they made it a prequel to the first Despicable Me movie.
It total I walked 11.82 miles! Which is fantastic for this week. Where we live it was super rainy. Which makes it a little harder for my daughter and I to take our daily outside walk. She was also a pretty big fan of the minions themselves!
Ever wondered how to turn your love for movies into a fun fitness activity? I recently found a fantastic way to do just that, inspired by the Despicable Me series! It's what I like to call a 'Gru Walk' challenge, and it really helped me stay active, even on those rainy days. My personal journey through the 'Despicable Me' universe, from the very first movie to 'Minions: The Rise of Gru', got me thinking about how much movement is involved in those films! Gru is always on the go, scheming and adventuring, and it made me want to get moving too. So, I decided to combine my movie marathons with a walking goal. For instance, if a movie's 'run time' was 1 hour 35 minutes, I'd aim for a similar 'walk time' during the day. It’s a great way to turn passive screen time into active self-care. How to Start Your Own 'Gru Walk' Adventure: Pick Your Playlist: Naturally, I chose the Despicable Me series, including 'Minions: The Rise of Gru'. But you could adapt this to any movie or show you love! Knowing the 'run time' of each film can help you set realistic 'walk time' goals for your day. Set a Distance Goal: I aimed to hit a significant 'total distance' throughout the week, much like the 11.82 miles I proudly logged. You could aim for a certain number of 'miles' per day, or a cumulative goal over several days. Track Your Progress: This is where it gets exciting! Using a fitness tracker or app, I kept an eye on my 'workout time', 'distance', 'active calories', 'total calories', 'avg. heart rate', and 'avg. pace'. Seeing those numbers climb as I immersed myself in Gru's world was incredibly motivating. Knowing I'd walked a 'total distance' of 3.96 miles during one session, for example, made me feel accomplished. Make it Family-Friendly: My daughter is a huge fan of the Minions, so incorporating her made it even better. We’d talk about the movie characters during our walks, or I’d tell her snippets of the story. It turns exercise into a shared, imaginative experience. Overcome Obstacles: Just like Gru faces his challenges, I faced rainy weather! Instead of giving up, we found indoor alternatives like walking around the house more frequently, or even a brisk walk around a local mall. The key is consistency and finding ways to adapt. This 'Gru Walk' challenge has been such a wonderful discovery, letting me enjoy my favorite animated films while also prioritizing my physical health. It's a fantastic way to boost your daily 'steps' and incorporate more 'exercise' into your routine. Give it a try, and let me know what movie series inspires your next walking adventure!
