Our Daughter’s First Dentist Appointment

I was definitely a bit nervous about this one than I should have been. Our daughter had her first dentist appointment at 14 months old. Sweet girl had no clue that the dentist was a “scary place”, like I had felt for so many years as a child.

Our first appointment was very relaxed. We went back into the office. The oral hygienist, showed sweet girl all of the tools that they use in the office. Showed her how they worked and the sounds that they made. I really liked this because it introduced all the new stimuli of the dentist office without being too intense. We even played with the fancy tooth brush the dentist uses. Sweet girl then got to show off her personal teeth brushing skills while the hygienist took a peak at how many teeth she has. We counted 7!

Then the dentist came by and took a look at her teeth. We talked about her teeth spacing and general dental hygiene. We also talked about discontinuing her milk before bed time. Due to it sitting on the teeth all night it can cause some problems. We did attempt to give her, milk after her dinner which she seemed okay with until I laid her down without her milk before hand. It did take her a little longer to settle but I’m optimistic about this change once she gets used to it.

We will be visiting her dentist again in 6 months. At what age did you start taking your kids to the dentist?
