Parent Date Night
From the stress of becoming new parents, to finances, to being anxious about leaving our baby. There were a number of things that had prevented us from having a date night. The other week I had a Facebook memory from a year ago, it was our last date night. My fiancé and I agreed that the past year has been such a blur.
You truly don’t realize how quickly time is passing while being a parent. Slowly your little new born isn’t so pudgy anymore, and even sooner they’re learning how to crawl and now walking!
This date night was very well needed. It was fantastic to get to sit down just the two os if and enjoy a meal at Outback. The food was very good!
Was it hard for you to spend time as a couple after you had kids? If so how did you and your partner navigate it?

It's so true, that blur of the first year! I completely relate to how tricky it is to carve out time for just the two of you once a little one arrives. Between exhaustion, baby's schedule, and that feeling of not wanting to leave them, traditional date nights can feel like a distant dream. But trust me, even small moments can make a huge difference in keeping your connection strong and your love thriving. If getting out seems impossible, don't underestimate the power of an at-home date! Once baby is asleep (and you've done your final checks!), light some candles, order takeout from your favorite spot (no cooking or dishes!), or even have a themed movie night with popcorn and cozy blankets. We sometimes set up a little picnic on the living room floor or tackle a new board game together. It’s about intentional time together, focusing on each other, not necessarily a fancy outing. You can even make it playful – maybe try to make each other laugh with silly faces, just like we did for our selfie! It’s a great, low-pressure way to reconnect and remember why you fell in love. When you can get out, it feels like pure gold! Our recent trip to Outback was a perfect example of a much-needed escape. Planning is absolutely key here. Discussing finances openly, finding a trusted sitter (grandparents are a blessing if you have them!), and setting a realistic expectation for how long you'll be out can ease a lot of anxiety for both parents. Don't feel pressured to go on an extravagant trip; a simple dinner, a walk in the park, or even a coffee shop visit can be incredibly refreshing. Remember that adorable drink with the koala-shaped rubber ducky I had? Those little fun details can make the experience even more memorable and add a playful touch to your evening out, proving that it's often the small things that bring the most joy. But what about those times when a 'date night' isn't even on the cards? This is where those everyday moments become vital. We've found that constantly making funny faces at our baby, engaging in playful banter, and simply making each other laugh throughout the day helps maintain our bond. It’s about being present and finding joy in the small things, whether it's a shared glance over the baby's head or a quick joke. These micro-moments are the glue that holds everything together. Even when you're just cooking dinner, putting on some music and dancing together for a minute can be a mini-date. It’s all about finding those little pockets of 'us' time, prioritizing connection amidst the beautiful chaos of parenthood. Ultimately, making time for your relationship isn't selfish; it's essential for your well-being as individuals and as parents. A strong partnership provides a stable, loving environment for your child to thrive. So, whether it’s a big night out at Outback or just sharing a quiet cup of tea after the baby is down, prioritize that connection. How do you navigate it? Share your tips! We're all in this together, learning to juggle parenthood with partnership.
