When I first decided to get a crested gecko, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect in terms of personality. I'd heard they were generally docile, but could they truly be 'friendly'? Well, after welcoming Quinoa into my home, I can confidently say the answer is a resounding YES! She's not just a pet; she's a little source of 'Good VIBES' every single day. Quinoa really embodies what it means to have a friendly crested gecko. She's calm, rarely spooks, and is quite tolerant of handling. I believe a big part of fostering this friendliness comes from consistent, gentle interaction. From day one, I made sure to handle her regularly, but always with a soft touch and never forcing the interaction. Short, positive handling sessions allow them to get used to your presence and learn that you're not a threat. I usually let her crawl onto my hand at her own pace, rather than grabbing her. Another key aspect of keeping a crested gecko friendly is providing a comfortable and enriching environment. A stress-free gecko is a happy, more approachable gecko! Ensure their enclosure has plenty of hiding spots, climbing opportunities with branches and vines, and the correct temperature and humidity. When Quinoa feels secure in her home, she's much more relaxed and open to interaction. I've noticed she's most active and curious in the evenings, which is when she's usually most receptive to coming out and exploring my hands. It's truly rewarding to see her little personality shine. She often just perches on my finger, observing the world around her with those big, beautiful eyes. Sometimes she'll even lick a bit of food off my finger, which feels like a huge sign of trust and affection. These small moments are what make having a friendly crested gecko so special. They might not cuddle like a cat or dog, but their unique charm and gentle nature are incredibly endearing.
