Staying engaged during lecture

Hi, Lemon8 fam!

In a previous post, I went through the outlines for a basic PA school lecture. I mentioned that I wanted to share how I stay engaged and on top of this content in the future post – well, this is it!

Two of the most basic things I do to stay awake during class and focused just make sure I get daily movement and a fair jolt of caffeine to boost my energy! I find that doing these two things regularly not only keep me awake, but really increase my mood, and allow me to sit still longer to focus without becoming drowsy or antsy!

Throughout my time as a PA student, I have develops different ways to approach content, depending on the module and class.

Currently, my favorite way to keep up is to create a Quizlet as the content is being lectured! With every slide, I create rapid bullet points in flashcards that I can easily access and review later on. I am creating my own study tools during class, therefore, cutting down on time needed to prepare them afterwards.

I make sure to include any verbal examples or details that are not clearly stated in the slides, and I always add in lots of pictures and images in order to give me a visual representation of each topic.

How do you take notes or stay engaged during lectures? Let me know in the comments I’d love to hear about it!

... Read moreStaying engaged during lectures is crucial for retaining information and succeeding academically. One effective method is to incorporate movement into your daily routine. Activities such as stretching or a brisk walk can boost brain activity and keep you alert during long hours of listening. Additionally, caffeine can be your ally; however, moderation is key to avoid crashes or jitters. Another trending strategy among students is utilizing digital tools like Quizlet during lectures. Creating flashcards in real-time allows you to summarize key points and reinforces learning. This proactive approach eliminates the need for extensive preparation later by embedding information into your memory as you go. Visual aids are also essential; incorporating diagrams, charts, and relevant images can aid in comprehension and retention. In classes heavy on complex information, visual representations help distill complicated concepts into understandable formats. Overall, varying your study techniques and maintaining engagement through movement and effective note-taking can significantly enhance your educational experience.
