How activity helps your memory!

Hi Lemon8, friends!

If you read my last post on tips to make your GPA jump, I mentioned physical activity as being a great way to help boost your memory and learning.

I wanted to highlight a specific article. I read in this post that really outlined the methods behind, improved cognitive functioning when paired with exercise.

Read through the slides above to get a better picture of what exactly is meant by “exercise” and to see the amazing benefits that even five minutes of movement can have to your grades and overall GPA!

Get moving!!

... Read moreExercise has profound benefits on cognitive health, significantly impacting memory, alertness, and overall brain function. Research indicates that engaging in physical activity can stimulate the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which plays a critical role in neuronal survival and growth. It's not just about intense workouts; even light activity, such as standing while studying or taking quick breaks to walk, can enhance focus and retention. Incorporating brief bouts of exercise into study sessions can help create a more stimulating learning environment. For example, consider using standing desks or regularly scheduled movement breaks during long study periods. Activities as simple as stretching or walking can increase blood flow to the brain, thereby improving attention spans and boosting mood. Additionally, exercises that challenge coordination and rhythm, like dancing or playing sports, have been shown to further enhance cognitive flexibility. Harvard studies highlight that combining learning with movement can solidify new information, making it easier to recall during exams. Thus, integrating physical activity into your study habits not only aids memory recall but fosters a healthier lifestyle overall. Start small—evaluate your study times over the next few days, integrating short exercises and noting improvements in mood and productivity. By prioritizing movement, you’ll ensure a more effective and engaging learning experience.
