My first clinical 🩺

This past semester I had the joy of being allowed to participate in my first clinicals at a local urgent care!
I had three four hour mini-shifts spaced out over 4 weeks time. During this time I shadowed whatever PA was on duty and participated in routine patient visits.
I was even able to throw my first sutures & remove sutures on another patient.
This brief adventure into real clinical medicine gave me so much excitement for my full clinical beginning this August!

Participating in clinical rotations is a vital step for pre-med and medical students looking to gain hands-on experience in healthcare settings. During my urgent care rotation, I had the opportunity to shadow physician assistants and observe various medical procedures. I learned how to conduct patient intakes and perform preliminary examinations, which enhanced my understanding of patient care processes. One of the most thrilling aspects of my clinical experience was suturing. I was able to practice both suturing and suture removal under supervision. This not only boosted my confidence but also reinforced the importance of precision and care in medical practices. Additionally, diagnosing two patients correctly allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge in real-life scenarios, fostering a deeper connection to my studies. Through this initial exposure to urgent care, I acquired valuable insights about patient interactions and the daily responsibilities of healthcare professionals. These experiences have solidified my passion for medicine, and I eagerly anticipate my upcoming full clinicals starting this August. Being part of a healthcare team opens doors to learning and growth, making every shift an unforgettable adventure.
