Academic FOMO 🥺
When someone asks what my plans for this summer are, I automatically sigh as I think of all the class work & examinations I have to conquer…
While many of my friends are planning vacations or weekend pool days, I am cooped up in class of my local coffee shop scrolling through endless slides & lecture materials.
Whether you are taking 2 classes or 5, just remember that you are not alone & you are not missing out! You are creating your own experiences and working towards a successful future!

Okay, let's be real. That academic FOMO hits *hard*, especially when summer rolls around. I totally get it. Just yesterday, I was scrolling through my feed, seeing friends at the beach, on vacations, or just chilling by the pool, and a wave of 'feeling blue' washed over me. Here I am, a PA student, surrounded by textbooks and lecture slides, wishing I could trade places. It's tough to keep studying when it feels like everyone else is living their best summer life. But you know what? I've learned to reframe this feeling, and I want to share how I cope. First, it’s crucial to acknowledge that what you're feeling is valid. It's okay to feel a bit sad or envious. We're all human, and it's natural to desire fun and relaxation. The important thing is not to let that feeling derail your progress. One of the biggest game-changers for me has been shifting my perspective. Instead of seeing my studies as a burden, I started viewing them as an investment in my future. Those long hours in the library, the endless problem sets – they're not taking away from my summer; they're building towards the career I've always dreamed of. Just like those balanced rocks by the ocean that remind me of steady progress, every study session is a step forward, a 'working towards goals' moment. The 'value of education' truly comes into focus when you connect it to your 'end goals.' To truly beat that academic FOMO, I’ve found a few strategies incredibly helpful. First, curate your social media feed. If certain posts trigger your FOMO, don't be afraid to mute or unfollow temporarily. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Second, schedule small doses of summer fun. Even if it’s just an hour at a local park with a book, a quick dip in a community pool, or an evening stroll, integrating tiny breaks can make a huge difference. I often grab my coffee and sit outside for 15 minutes between study blocks, just soaking in the sunshine. Third, connect with your fellow students. You are absolutely not alone in this! We're all making 'sacrifices' for our 'end goals,' whether it's PA school, med school, or any demanding college program. Sharing experiences, commiserating, and even having virtual study dates can create a sense of camaraderie that makes the grind less lonely. It reinforces that we're all 'working towards goals' together. Finally, celebrate every win, no matter how small. Finished a tough chapter? Nailed a practice quiz? Treat yourself! It could be your favorite snack, an episode of your favorite show, or a short video call with a friend. These little rewards motivate you to keep pushing through. Remember those 'sacrifices' you're making? They are paving the way for an incredible future. This summer might look different, but the experiences you're creating now – the knowledge gained, the resilience built – are invaluable. You're building your own unique path, and that's something truly special.
