I am burnt out ðŸ«
Let’s talk about student burnout!
We’ve all heard the term burn not used before for high stress, situations and lifestyles. Many people discuss burnout in terms of working too many hours, overtraining in professional sports, or even just being burnt out with your every day life. But I want to talk about the burnout that students experience, especially those who take classes year round without an extended break.
Medical schools and PA programs alike do not have summer semester off, for students to be on their game year-round often for multiple years on end.
At this point in my program, my entire cohort is experiencing our own type of “senioritis“. With our clinicals beginning mid August, we cannot wait to get out of the classroom!
Swipe through my pictures above to talk a little more about burnout and the ways to combat it as a overworked student.

Burnout among students, especially in demanding fields like medical and PA schools, is a significant issue. It can stem from relentless exams, prolonged exposure to high-pressure environments, and limited control over time management. Common symptoms include exhaustion, isolation, anxiety, fatigue, and a decrease in motivation. To recover from burnout, students are encouraged to practice self-care techniques such as proper sleep, setting healthy boundaries, maintaining gratitude journals, and making time for enjoyable activities. Engaging with loved ones can also alleviate feelings of loneliness and stress. Implementing these strategies is crucial for students to not only survive but thrive in their academic journeys. Additionally, creating a supportive environment and seeking professional help when necessary can be effective in combating burnout. Remember, taking breaks and prioritizing mental health are vital components in sustaining long-term success in any educational endeavor.
