My first ever doubles beach tournament was a holiday themed coed weighted blind draw. Meaning I didn't meet my partner until the day of and he was a significantly better player than me. I really lucked out with my first partner because he was kind patient and didn't make me feel my mistakes. I think this format is one of the best ways to get integrated into the community because you don't need any experience to join a blind draw. One of the options was literally "has never touched a ball" it's one of the safest lowest pressure ways to join but not evey partner will be like mine.
Some people are competitive by nature and take these fun tournaments a bit too seriously and that can bleed into the team dynamic.
But don't let that deter you because you need to play with different people and a little bit of pressure so you can learn to play the game
