Wisp the ghost
Oh, Wisp! My first encounter with him in Animal Crossing: New Horizons was such a memorable, albeit slightly jump-scare-inducing, experience. If you've ever seen a little glowing orb floating around your island at night, then you've met Wisp, our resident friendly ghost! Many new players often wonder, "Who is Wisp in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?" and "Is Wisp a boy or girl?" From my understanding, Wisp is a timid spirit who often gets scared silly and loses his five spirit pieces. While he uses male pronouns (he/him) in the game, he's basically a spirit, so gender isn't really a huge point of focus, but he's definitely a 'he' in terms of character dialogue. He's not a scary ghost at all; in fact, he's one of the most endearing recurring characters in the series. You'll find Wisp only after dark, typically after 8 PM, and he can appear anywhere on your island. He’s not tied to any specific day, so keep an eye out for him on any clear night (he usually doesn't show up during rain or snow). When you approach him, he’ll get startled and his spirit will scatter into five tiny pieces, which is where you come in! Your task is to find all five of his spirit pieces. They'll glow faintly and float around different parts of your island, sometimes hiding behind trees, rocks, or even buildings. Just walk over them, and they'll automatically be collected. The good news is, they don't despawn quickly, so you have plenty of time. Once you collect all five, Wisp will exclaim, "Perfect! That's all five pieces!" and gratefully offer you a reward. Now, for one of the most common questions: "What does Wisp give you in Animal Crossing?" This is where the fun really begins! Wisp offers you a choice between two types of rewards: Something New: If you choose this option, Wisp will give you an item that you don't currently have cataloged. This could be furniture, clothing, or even a DIY recipe you haven't learned yet. It's a fantastic way to expand your collection and get those rare items you've been searching for without Nookazon or trading. Something Expensive: Opting for this means Wisp will give you an item that has a high resell value at Nook's Cranny. This is usually a piece of furniture, and while it might be something you already own, it's a great way to earn some quick bells. I often choose this when I’m short on cash! Both options are great, and my choice usually depends on whether I’m looking for new decor or need some extra bells for a home upgrade. Interacting with Wisp is definitely worth your time. It’s a simple, low-stress activity that adds a touch of magic to your nightly island routine and provides valuable rewards. So next time you're wandering your island after sunset, keep an ear out for his distinctive 'whoosh' sound and an eye out for that glowing spirit – Wisp might just be waiting for you!
