... Read moreIt's incredible how a show like 'What We Do in the Shadows' can spark so much creativity, isn't it? As a huge fan, I find myself constantly inspired by the hilarious antics and surprisingly heartfelt moments of our favorite Staten Island vampires. Creating fanart for WWDITS isn't just about drawing; it's about capturing the essence of these unique characters and the world they inhabit. For me, the dynamic between Nandor and Guillermo is pure gold, and it's something I absolutely adore exploring in my fanart. There’s just so much chemistry and unspoken history there, which makes 'shipping' them in art incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s depicting their awkward but loving bond or imagining their lives beyond the show’s camera crew, it truly feels like a way to celebrate their journey. Many fellow fans resonate with this, and it’s a joy to see how others interpret their relationship too. But it’s not just about Nandor and Guillermo! Each character brings their own unique flair. Nadja, with her fierce spirit and ancient wisdom, is a dream to draw. Her fashion sense alone provides endless inspiration. And Laszlo? His flamboyant personality and iconic phrases like "Bat!" are just begging to be immortalized in art. Then there's Colin Robinson, the energy vampire who can be surprisingly endearing despite his draining nature – trying to capture his subtle charm is a fun challenge. Even the familiar faces like the Baron or the Sire add so much texture to the WWDITS universe, making it ripe for artistic interpretation. Seeing them all together, perhaps with Guillermo trying to keep them in line, often leads to the most amusing compositions. The beauty of WWDITS fanart is how diverse it can be. Some artists delve into highly detailed, almost photorealistic depictions, while others, like myself, lean into more stylized or cartoonish interpretations that emphasize their comedic timing and exaggerated personalities. Digital art allows for vibrant colors and intricate details, while traditional mediums can give a more classic, gothic feel. There’s no single right way to create fanart, and that’s what makes the community so vibrant. Sharing these pieces, seeing others' reactions, and connecting over a shared love for the show truly enhances the whole fandom experience. What I find particularly exciting about creating fanart is the opportunity to extend the narrative. The show's ending, for instance, left a lot to the imagination, and that's where fanart can truly shine. It allows us to envision those 'what if' scenarios, to imagine what Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, Colin, and Guillermo might be up to next without the constant surveillance. It’s a way to keep the magic alive and explore possibilities that the show might not explicitly cover. Ultimately, fanart is a tribute, a personal expression of love for a story and characters that have brought so much joy and laughter into our lives. It’s a wonderful way to connect with other fans and keep the spirit of WWDITS burning bright!

Would you recommend the show? I was OBSESSED with the movie when it came out. (I think me and my family watched it like at least three times a month for a while!) But I never watched the show because I am so in love with the movie that I don’t want it to be ruined.
