Reading The Founders Trilogy has been an exhilarating journey, especially diving into the intricate world Robert Jackson Bennett has crafted. Starting with Foundryside, the novel sets the tone with its inventive magic system that feels fresh and complex. What I found particularly compelling was the blend of a heist narrative with high fantasy, making it not just about magic but also about the cleverness of the characters involved. The praise from Brandon Sanderson for its mysteries and heart-pounding action resonates well with my experience. Moving to Shorefall, the second book, the pace quickens and the stakes feel higher. Amal El-Mohtar’s description of the story as “an absolutely wild ride” is spot on. The expanding worldbuilding and character arcs keep you fully invested, and the new challenges they face made this sequel feel fresh rather than just a continuation. Finally, Locklands concludes the trilogy on a powerful note, bringing together the threads of the previous books. The blend of political intrigue, magic, and personal stakes is handled masterfully. Fans of City of Stairs will recognize Bennett’s skill in crafting complex, believable worlds. What I appreciate most about this trilogy is how it stays innovative without sacrificing emotional depth. The magical technology — tying magical powers to physical objects — offers endless possibilities, while the characters’ struggles feel real and relatable. If you enjoy epic fantasy with smart plot twists and well-developed worlds, The Founders Trilogy is highly recommended. It’s been for me a series that combines adventure, thoughtful themes, and a fresh take on fantasy tropes.
