The way the author weaves elements like fake friendships, secrets, and revenge into a cohesive storyline kept me hooked until the very end. I could really relate to Connie’s struggle with privacy invasion due to her mother’s constant video documentation, a dilemma many teens may face in today’s social media-driven world.
What stood out most was the unpredictability of the plot twists. Just when I thought I had figured out who the antagonist was, the narrative cleverly flipped the story on its head. Characters like Grayson and Dustin added layers of complexity, making the investigation feel authentic and suspenseful. The added detail of Jules, the town’s sheriff, hiding a secret was a nice touch that deepened the mystery.
As a fan of psychological thrillers, I appreciated how Preston developed each character’s background and conflicts, especially the tension between Connie and her boyfriend Seth, who disapproved of her online presence. It made the story feel real and relatable, touching on issues of trust and personal boundaries.
The book effectively combines traditional thriller elements with modern-day issues like social media overexposure, which made it even more engaging for me. If you enjoy mysteries that keep you guessing and feature strong, realistic characters dealing with personal and external threats, this novel is definitely worth your time. Overall, it’s a fresh take on suspense that balances emotional depth with thrilling plot developments.
I love Natasha Preston!
