Sharing my experience with DNF (Did Not Finish) books has helped me better understand my reading preferences and why certain books just don’t click for me. For instance, with "Eat, Pray, Love," the poorly translated Spanish sections really took me out of the story, which is especially frustrating as a native Spanish speaker. That kind of authenticity is so important in a narrative that touches on cultural journeys. Some books, like "Things Seen from Above," felt too juvenile, showing me that even a book’s target audience influences whether it will resonate with me. Similarly, seasonal or thematic stories—such as "Let's Give ’Em Pumpkin to Talk About," a fall-themed read—aren't always appealing depending on the time of year or mood I am in. I also learned that audiobook accents matter a lot to me. "Invisible Girl" was tough to listen to with an English accent because it didn’t match my expectations or ease of understanding. That’s a good reminder to preview audiobooks when possible to see if the narration style suits you. Interestingly, visual presentation is just as important as content. I struggled with the layout of "Girl in Pieces," which impacted my enjoyment and made me put the book down, even though I might try it again later. Finally, pacing plays a major role—books like "Leave the World Behind" took too long to get to the point, which disrupted my engagement. Comparing the book to its movie adaptation helped me realize how different formats can affect storytelling delivery. Overall, DNF-ing books isn’t a failure but rather a valuable part of discovering what truly enriches my reading experience. Each book teaches me a bit more about my tastes, and sometimes gives me a reason to revisit it later with fresh eyes or a different format.
