... Read moreSharing my experience after one and a half months post-bariatric surgery, I’ve noticed important changes that go beyond just the number on the scale. Losing 30 pounds so far has been encouraging, but what also matters significantly is the formation of muscle and measurements, which often reflect health improvements better than weight alone. One important lesson I learned is the critical role of protein intake in recovery. My doctor and nutritionist emphasized consuming about 60-80 grams of protein daily, roughly measured as the amount that fits in the palm of your hand per meal. This helps not only with muscle formation but also with overall healing. I make sure to include lean meats and vegetables while being mindful to avoid refined carbohydrates during this recovery phase. Exercise has also been a key part of my process. While the body needs time to heal, gradually introducing exercise helped me avoid plateaus and improve muscle tone. Every patient's body reacts differently, so listening to your own pace and consulting your doctor is essential. Another common issue I experienced was hair thinning, which started earlier than I expected. It turns out this is a common effect of surgery due to nutritional shifts. Taking multivitamin supplements specially designed for bariatric patients, including biotin and collagen, helped me manage this phase better. Meal frequency is also something I adjusted. I try to have at least three balanced meals daily, which aids metabolism regulation after surgery. It’s about quality and portion control rather than quantity. Overall, sharing these nuances has helped me stay motivated and aware that this journey is not just about rapid weight loss but building a healthier body sustainably. If you’re considering or recovering from bariatric surgery, focus on protein, monitor your progress beyond the scale, and be patient with your body’s unique timeline.
