As someone who has undergone bariatric surgery, I can share how important it is to focus not only on what you eat but also on how you stay hydrated throughout the day. After surgery, my meals have become much smaller yet more nutritious, aiming to hit around 80 grams of protein daily to support healing and maintain muscle mass. For instance, my breakfast might include eggs and ham, ensuring a good protein start, while lunch could be lean meat with a side of vegetables and a couple of potatoes for energy. One mistake I initially made was forgetting to drink enough water, which is essential for digestion and overall health post-surgery, as dehydration can be a common problem. I now make a conscious effort to sip water consistently between meals. Vitamins and supplements also play a crucial role, as nutrient absorption can be limited depending on the type of surgery. Taking prescribed vitamins helps prevent deficiencies. Another tip is saving leftovers as snacks or future meals, which helps in planning and keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. Coffee with milk can be part of the day, but it's better to avoid sugary additives. Listening to your body’s signals of fullness is vital to avoid overeating, which might cause discomfort. Overall, a meal plan rich in protein, moderate in healthy carbs like potatoes, and ample hydration, complemented with vitamins, supports recovery and well-being after bariatric surgery. Sharing detailed daily intake like this helps others visualize and adapt such plans to their own lifestyle.
