I had a rough day Student Teaching

I’ve been in my student teaching placement for 3 weeks now so it was time for my first observation. I spent a good chunk of time planning a lesson that I was sure was going to impress my professor, had everything ready, and even got to test run it yesterday.

That didn’t change this morning when all of the kids were wired, staff from different areas were coming into my room, and when there was a physical fight in my 4th grade class. Since the morning was hectic, I didn’t go into this afternoon clear headed or ready to be observed.

During my observation kids were being unsafe, and unfocused, which as a new teacher is hard to cope with.

Overall, I got a lot of great feedback and support from both my cooperating teacher and supervising teacher, but today was just so long and chaotic.

New educators often face situations like physical altercations among students or an influx of distractions from staff and visitors. It's vital to develop classroom management strategies that promote safety and focus. Techniques such as establishing clear rules, maintaining a routine, and fostering a supportive classroom culture can help mitigate chaos. Engaging with mentors for guidance can also provide critical insights on managing complex scenarios. Remember, every challenging day is an opportunity for growth and resilience in the teaching profession. Reflecting on these experiences not only enhances your teaching skills but also prepares you for a successful career in education.
