Bye Bye Clutter Hello Clarity
It's Wellness Wednesday! ✨ And today, I'm talking about something we don't often associate with wellness: decluttering. I've been on a journey to better mental health, and lately, I've been hitting some serious brain fog. It got so bad I even asked ChatGPT for help getting started decluttering (more on that later!).
For me, this journey is tied to my physical health limitations. I'm focusing on what I can control, and right now, that's tackling the overabundance of stuff in my life. Anyone else feel me? 🙋♀️
I'm realizing that a lot of this "stuff" is tied to my upbringing. Growing up with limited resources, I developed a scarcity mindset that makes it hard to let go of things. I'm asking myself (and you, if it resonates): why are we holding on? Is it fear-based? We collect things, not people, and the truth is, my clutter has created a barrier between me and the connections I crave. My home isn't inviting; it's overwhelming. It’s time to break free from that cycle.
So, where do I start? ChatGPT gave me some great tips (check my previous posts for details!), but the biggest takeaway is to be mindful and intentional. One step at a time. One category at a time. Asking myself, "Does this bring me joy? Does this serve a purpose?"
And because being resourceful is in my DNA, I'm looking at consignment stores and Facebook Marketplace to recoup some of the money spent on these items. What doesn't sell will be donated. It feels good to give these things a new life, and even better to create space for me to thrive.
Decluttering isn't just about tidying up our homes; it's about clearing out mental space and making room for positive energy. It's about slowing down and being present. It's about setting ourselves up for success, both mentally and physically.

Decluttering can often feel overwhelming, especially when faced with a mountain of shoes, makeup, clothes, and jewelry, but breaking down the process into manageable steps can truly make a difference. One effective strategy is to focus on one category at a time, rather than trying to tackle everything at once. For example, start by gathering all your shoes in one spot. Cleaning them and inspecting their condition helps decide which ones to keep, donate, or toss. Shoes that are damaged beyond repair or uncomfortable should go first, while duplicates can be minimized by keeping favorites only. When it comes to makeup, it's important to check expiration dates since using outdated products can irritate your skin. Toss anything cracked, dried out, or no longer suitable for your skin tone. Similarly, clothes should be tried on to assess fit and style honestly, discarding items that don’t bring joy or no longer fit your lifestyle. Jewelry benefits from gentle cleaning and decluttering too, giving you a chance to repair cherished pieces or let go of broken or tarnished items. To maintain focus during decluttering, consider working in short bursts—setting a timer for 30 minutes helps avoid burnout. Follow the "One In, One Out" rule to prevent clutter from creeping back in; for every new item brought into your home, commit to removing one old item. Being honest with yourself about the reasons behind holding on to things, whether guilt or sentimentality, is essential for lasting change. Remember to eliminate distractions like phones during your sessions and reward yourself for milestones achieved to stay motivated. An added bonus of decluttering comes from resourcefulness; selling items via consignment stores or online platforms like Facebook Marketplace not only helps recoup some costs but also gives your belongings a second life. What doesn’t sell can be donated, helping others while freeing your space. Ultimately, decluttering isn’t just tidying up; it’s about clearing mental space and inviting positive energy into your life. By slowing down, being intentional, and creating an environment that feels welcoming, you set yourself up for improved mental clarity and wellbeing. This mindful approach fosters a healthier mind, body, and soul, encouraging deeper connections and a more joyful living experience. Embrace this journey one step at a time, and watch your space and mindset transform.

Clutter is my enemy. I need to Marie Kondo my whole life, but I'm too lazy.
