One year ago I walked away from a relationship that was draining me in every possible way. For a long time I was putting everyone else before myself — physically, financially, and mentally — and somewhere along the way I completely lost who I was.
This past year has been about finding her again.
Now my weekends look like kayaking all summer, learning to golf, trips to Nashville, random hangouts with friends, and finally being able to say yes to things that make me happy.
I’ve spent this whole year showing up for myself in the gym too. I finished my first bulk and now I’m working on my cut, and I’ve fallen in love with the process and the discipline that comes with it.
One of the most important things I gained back this year is my relationship with God. The same amazing friends that someone once tried to keep me away from are the ones who helped guide me back to Him, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.
For the first time in a really long time, my life feels like it actually belongs to me. And for once, I can truly say that I love my life.
So here’s to one year of growth, healing, freedom, and choosing myself — and yes, I bought myself a cake to celebrate. 🩷 #fyp #single #healing #growth
Reflecting on this transformative year after leaving a toxic relationship, I’ve realized that the journey of self-love and healing is both challenging and rewarding. At first, breaking free felt overwhelming—the void left by putting myself last was huge—but gradually, I learned the importance of prioritizing my well-being. One of the most powerful changes has been reconnecting with my passions and hobbies. Kayaking on warm summer weekends gave me a sense of peace and freedom, while learning golf introduced me to patience and persistence. Travel, like my trip to Nashville, became an avenue for exploration and joy, allowing me to create memories outside of old patterns. Physical fitness played a huge role in my self-discovery. Completing my first bulking phase and transitioning to cutting wasn't just about physical changes but cultivating discipline and respect for my body’s needs. The routine of workouts provided structure and boosted my confidence, reinforcing my commitment to myself. Spiritual growth also profoundly impacted my healing process. Rebuilding my relationship with God through supportive friendships helped me find inner strength and guidance. It reminded me that community and faith can be vital pillars when rebuilding oneself. Throughout this journey, saying “yes” to experiences that genuinely bring me happiness, no matter how small, has been crucial. Celebrating milestones—like buying myself a cake for my one-year anniversary of being single—serves as a beautiful reminder of my progress and the love I now have for my life. For anyone navigating a similar path, remember that reclaiming your life is a gradual process filled with ups and downs. Embrace the journey, honor your needs, and surround yourself with positivity. Choosing yourself is the greatest gift you can give—one that unlocks true freedom and lasting joy.
